Ookubo Atsushi'nin Shounen Gangan'da yayınlanan mangasından uyarlanmıştır.
Silah teknisyenleri yetiştiren Shinigami teknik okulunda geçen seri, her biri birer silah teknisyeni ve insan silahtan oluşan iki kişilik üç takımın çevresinde dönüyor. Teknisyenler, silahlarını bir "Ölüm Tırpanı"na dönüştürüp Shinigami tarafından kullanılmaya uygun hale getirmeye çalışıyorlar. Bunu gerçekleştirmek içinse, 99 şeytan insanın ve bir cadının ruhunu toplamaları gerekiyor.
Not: Soul Eater'ın iki versiyonu bulunmaktaydı : Pazartesi günleri yayınlanan normal versiyonu ve Perşembe geceleri yayınlanan "Late Show" versiyonu. "Late Show" versiyonunda bölüm aralarında ve gelecek bölümlerin öngösteriminde bazı ekstra sahneler eklenmişti ancak serinin ana bölümü normal versiyona göre hiçbir farklılık içermiyordu.
